New Venture Gear – Dodge & GM - NV4500 5 Speed Manual Transmissions have a cast iron main gear case with an aluminum alloy shift top and tail housing.

The NV4500 is built in both a 2 wheel drive and 4 wheel drive version with gas and diesel designs.

Dodge first introduced the NV4500 in 1992 with a 1” – 19 spline input shaft and an interlock mechanism built into the 1-2 synchronizer assembly to prevent downshifts to 1st and 2nd at higher speeds. All current gears on the

Dodge and GM -  NV4500 are fully synchronized including reverse**, with synchronizer rings made of a carbon fiber composite. NV4500 uses a dual cone synchronizers for 1st and 2nd gears.

New Venture Gear redesigned the NV4500 input shaft in 1994 to an 11/8” - 10 spline for increased durability, with an input torque rating of 410 ft-lb

*  Early GM – NV4500 – 1992 – 1994 had a 1st gear ratio of 6.34:1

**Early GM – NV4500 -  1992 – 1998  did not have a synchronized reverse gear

New Venture Gear - NV4500 Heavy Duty version - 5 Speed manual transmission was introduced in 1994 for the diesel and V-10 versions.

NV4500 Heavy Duty versions have an 11/4” – 10 spline input shaft and have an increased input torque rating of 460 ft-lb.
