Mr. Mack was approached about doing the transmission repair work for the delivery and repair trucks for a Sear's outlet located in the same area of South Houston. Before long Mack's Cars was doing all the transmission repair work on Sears trucks citywide as well as American Telephone and Telegraph, affectionately known as "Ma Bell". It did not take long for Mr. Mack to realize that the future of his business was vehicle repair not vehicle remarketing. That was the task at hand for the next 16 years as Mack's Cars continued state inspections, engine rebuilds and general automotive repairs.
In 1980 Mr. Mack's son-in-law purchased the business. Bruce Brown set out to transform the business into solely a transmission repair shop. Slowly but surely all functions of the shop not related to standard transmission and drivetrain work were eliminated and the business took shape. In 1984, the change became permanent when Mack's Standard Transmission was incorporated. Bruce had accomplished his goals and much more, Mack's became a major parts distributor in Houston. In December of 1989 work began on a 5,ooo sq.ft warehouse that would double the size to help increase productivity and much needed inventory space. Notable Events of 1959

Mack's Cars was founded in 1959 by John "Mack" McCaskill. At that time Mack's was in the business of purchasing, repairing, and selling used vehicles. Over the years so many cars were sold that repairing customer's cars also became an integral part of the enterprise. In the late 1960's an event occured that would reshape the company and a family for decades to come

On March 17,1996, Bruce's son, Scott, carried on the family tradition, taking over the shop's operations. Of course, part of the family tradition has always been to change the company's business plan and this change in management would be no different. Welcome to the computer age. Scott has long been of the opinion that every vehicle should run on a standard transmission, and so Mack's Standard Transmission is focusing on the glory that is the standard transmission and the 21st century computer age. Another expansion took place on May 1, 2000 when the shop purchased an adjacent building at 8670 Cullen Blvd. The building, once a neighborhood food market, gave the business an extra 6,500 sq. feet. With the purchase of this building, Mack's was able to start a new venture. A used parts and teardown shop is born. ( Thanks Bruce for buying ALL THOSE CORES). Customer's can now purchase quality used parts and with an inventory of over 500,000 gears, cases, shafts, bearings, seals, chains, synchros, differentials, gaskets, shift forks, and all the small parts that fall down the drain. Mack's is becoming one of the leaders in the standard tranmission parts distribution and repair industry.

Alot has changed over the last 45 years. The Sears store has moved and Ma Bell has diversified. A teaming community of storefronts and homes abound where once only rice fields and ranchland stood. Friends and family have passed from the scene. However, there is one constant on Cullen Blvd, for all your Standard Transmission and Drivetrain needs, there has been and always will be "Mack's Standard Transmission".
